The HIOKI FT6031-50 is an earth tester designed for electrical professionals working in service, maintenance, and inspection. It supports a 3-pole measurement method for precise earth resistance testing, as well as a simpler 2-pole method—utilizing an existing reference earth electrode—for situations where a full setup with auxiliary earth spikes is not feasible. An option for Bluetooth communication is also available.

2-pole and 3-pole earth resistance measurement
The 3-pole method is used to verify the earth resistance of grounding electrodes installed in buildings or electrical installations. In this measurement, the grounding electrode under test is disconnected from the installation and measured in conjunction with two auxiliary earth electrodes. The necessary test leads and auxiliary electrodes are included with the FT6031-50, with lead lengths tailored for standard setups (10 m and 20 m). Measurements are performed at a frequency of 128 Hz ±2 Hz, with a maximum output voltage of 30 V rms and a maximum measurement current of 25 mA rms. The measurement process typically takes up to 6 seconds, including an automatic check for interference voltage and the resistance of the auxiliary electrodes.
