What Is MDP Panel? Here's The Explanation!

The electrical distribution panel is a panel that will distribute and protect electricity from PLN. More specifically, this panel has a function to distribute electrical energy from the center. This panel is certainly an important component in the distribution of electricity in various facilities, such as houses, office buildings, and industrial factories.

However, not all of these facilities can use the same electrical distribution panel. Industries and manufacturing facilities certainly have diverse power needs. Moreover, the type of electrical distribution equipment used can be very different.

Therefore, this panel has various types. Based on how it works, there are 3 types of electrical distribution panels, namely Medium Voltage Main Distribution Panel (MVMDP), Low Voltage Main Distribution Panel (LVMDP), and Main Distribution Panel (MDP).

In this article, we will discuss the MDP Panel, starting from its function to how it works. Let's take a look!

What is an MDP Panel?

MDP Panel or Main Distribution Panel, is a one of the type of electrical distribution panel. This MDP panel is a distribution/divider panel after the LVMDP panel, which will distribute electricity with a voltage of 380/220 V.

This panel is also the control center for electrical power in a building, such as offices, apartments, hotels, and factories. Not only that, the MDP Panel is also known as a load center, switchboard, or motor control center. The MDP Panel usually consists of several components, such as the Electrical Panel, MCCB, MCB, Power Meter, Push Button, and also the Pilot Lamp.

What are the Functions of the MDP Panel?

Compared to the SDP (Sub Distribution Panel), the MDP Panel has a more strategic function in the electricity distribution system because it is responsible for distributing electrical power to all electrical installations or buildings.

More clearly, the following are the functions of the MDP Panel:

  • Receive and distribute electricity supply from the LVMDP (Low Voltage Main Distribution Panel)
  • Manage electricity from the main source, with a power range large enough to supply electricity to the entire building or facility
  • Distribute electricity with a voltage of 380/220 V
  • Provide electricity supply to the next electrical panel

How Does the MDP Panel Work?

The way the MDP Panel works is basically not much different from other electrical distribution panels. Initially, the PLN substation will supply electricity to the MVMDP Panel, from this panel it will be continued to the 20 kV Step Down Transformer to 380/220 V. Then, the LVMDP Panel will receive power from the Step Down Transformer. From this LVMDP Panel, it will be continued to several types of panels, one of which is this MDP Panel.

After receiving the electricity supply, which is usually in the form of high voltage, the MDP Panel will distribute the electricity to various branch distribution panels and other electrical loads in the building or industrial facility.

That's a complete explanation of the MDP Panel, from its function to how it works!
