What is a Servo Motor?

A servo motor is an electrical device that is commonly used in smart industrial machines. Its function is to push or rotate objects with high-precision control in terms of angular position, acceleration, and speed. This is a capability that ordinary motors do not have.

Components and Functions of Servo Motors

1. Stator: This component creates a rotating magnetic field to generate torque efficiently.

2. Coil: The current flowing in this coil will produce a rotating magnetic field.

3. Shaft: The shaft component functions to channel the motor's output power, where this load is driven through a transfer mechanism.

4. Encoder: The optical encoder always observes and counts the number of rotations completed and monitors the position of the shaft.

Then, in terms of its function, this servo motor has a function to convert the control signal into the angular displacement of the motor's output shaft or angular velocity. Then, the feedback system in this electronic component is useful for providing information on the motor's rotation position.

The servo motor also functions to receive control signals from external sources and generate signals that are useful for driving the motor. Other functions are to move joints, regulate car speed, move and pull the interior of commercial aircraft, adjust the position of radio-controlled aircraft control surfaces, and even drive electrically operated machines.
